Fashion model wearing a Vinicius Jr The shirt was hung with a rope from a bridge hours before a big soccer match in Madrid, and now police in Spain are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
The representation photos show a human-sized doll hanging from its neck, wearing the Viennese Junior jersey number 20 of Real Madrid, and under a banner reading “Madrid Odia Real” – translated, it means “Madrid hates Real”.
It is believed that Atletico Madrid fans were behind this disgusting stunt… The two teams play each other on Thursday night, and they are great rivals.
The bridge is located near the Real Madrid training complex.
Of course, most fans were horrified by the act…and quickly alerted the authorities, who immediately went to remove the crossbar and banner.
The police are now trying to determine who was responsible, and they are treating the act as a possible hate crime.
The Spanish League issued a statement condemning the hanging of the doll, saying, “We strongly condemn the acts of hatred against… [Vini Jr.] Intolerance and violence do not fit into football. As on previous occasions, #LaLiga will urge an investigation of the facts in search of the conviction of those responsible, demanding the strictest criminal penalties.”
While Atlético’s fans are believed to be responsible, the club has distanced itself from the act, stressing the importance of respect within the rivalry.
“Atlético de Madrid declares that such acts are absolutely abhorrent, unacceptable and disgraceful to society. Our condemnation of any act that offends the dignity of persons or institutions is categorical and unreserved. The rivalry between the two clubs is the greatest, but so is the respect that no individual, whatever his intentions or colors, can have. That distorts the coexistence of the various supporters.”
“It is everyone’s responsibility to avoid this. We do not know the perpetrator or perpetrators of this despicable act, but their anonymity does not evade their responsibility. We hope that the authorities succeed in clarifying what happened and that justice helps to deflect this type of behavior.”
Real Madrid also issued a statement… saying that the club “would like to thank the support and expression of affection it received after the unfortunate and disgusting act of racism, xenophobia and hatred against our player Vinicius”.
“We express our strong condemnation of the events that violate people’s basic rights and dignity, which have nothing to do with the values that football and sport represent.”
And the club continued… “These attacks like those our player is suffering from now, or those that any athlete can suffer from, can have no place in a society like ours.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Vini Jr. has dealt.
